I just spent the weekend at the Mc Dougall Health and Medical Center with their Advanced Study program. Dr. Mc Dougall brought in the top experts in the field of nutrition and health. Dr. Esselstyn, from the Cleveland Clinic, spoke on Preventing and Reversing Heart Disease. Lisa Bero, from UCSF, spoke on health policies influenced by the drug companies. It was shocking to learn how biased these studies are to promote drugs. Dr. Francine Kaufman, who was national president of the American Diabetes Assn. spoke on the obesity and diabetes epidemics world wide. All of them endorsed a plant based eating plan with no added oils which is essentially a >15% fat diet.
Last year I read the book, The China Study, which inspired me do a huge turn around in my eating. It is a book that stresses how the following the American diet leads to poor health and how cultures that eat a plant based diet have virtually no heart disease or cancer or autoimmune diseases. That book, along with reading and studying the Mc Dougall plan, led me to be eating a plant based diet since July of 2007. I feel so much better and have noticed definite changes in my health.
It was wonderful to have so much confirmation that I am on the right road from such experts in the field, top scientists who have been on the cutting edge of research for years. Now I am all reinspired to keep on with my plan.
So today, I'm off to the market to buy lots of greens, veggies, fruits, starches.... all the good
stuff.
If you have not read The China Study, I heartily recommend it.... it really impacted my life, perhaps it will give you some good information that will make a difference.
