Value Study Lesson from Laure Ferlita



This week's online lesson was stressing the importance of value. 
The eye sees value before color.
Laure suggested that we try a seeing a subject in grey tones
 before painting it in color. 
I have done that before by putting the photo in a 
black and white copier. It really helps to see the values.

Our first task was to paint the subject 
in monotones... thus the blue trees above.



This is my color version.
I put my my theme color, Winsor Red, in the letters
 and in the background, too.
The serendipity of these trees is finding parts of the peeling bark.
I enjoy taking off a thin layer and using it in my journal.
There are always treasures to find if you are looking!

Looks great. I think I like the blue version more to go with the red teapot!
