The Redwoods Apple Strudel Story

There has been a lot of activity in my 
downstairs neighbors' apartment.

This Fall, Carrie has been picking apples
from our organic orchard and 
keeping them cold in some of 
The Redwoods' larger refrigerators.

Carrie and some of her friends have 
been busy creating 300 slices of
her famous Apple Strudel.

Carrie got the apples by picking them
off the trees in 
 our Redwoods' Organic Orchard.

On Wednesday, I went down and helped her
cut 55 pounds of apples into quarters.

Then, she got busy with her 
Cuisinart and chopped all 55 pounds 
one batch at a time.


Once all the ingredients were ready,
a team of experienced strudel makers appeared.
This team of three layered the ingredients
and rolled the phylo dough
into long rolls. 


Here is our master baker, Carrie, in her kitchen.
 The rolls were cut into pieces and
baked in several neighbors' ovens.
Our ovens are only 20" wide and
not much fits into them.
All of this happened in a 500 sq. ft. apartment
with a tiny kitchen.
Our sinks are the size of bar sinks
and we have
a whopping 5 feet of counter space.


The aroma traveled throughout the
halls of our building #8. 
YUM!
The wonderful smells brought me downstairs
 to see what was baking.
Seeing this team effort, I decided to  
 record it with my point and shoot camera.



 This is the finished product ready to 
be taken downstairs and sold at the bazaar.


How many bakers can you fit into a small apartment?
A lot apparently!



Joseph, Carrie's husband, is in charge of selling 
the Apple Strudel. 
I am sure that the pieces will go fast.
They are delicious.


This is my first Redwoods' Bazaar and
it is amazing to see what the residents 
produce to sell to raise funds for 
our programs.

Looks wonderful! Did you think to "sketch & paint" the Struedel?
Hope you make "ton$" for your projects :-)

An organized cook doesn't need as much space as someone not organized and anyone who can make strudel is a cook! IMHO, lol. Bet it went fast although $3 sounds like a lot to me! To my husband, paying 75 cents for a large donut is too much!
