A Day in the Presido

A good friend, Patti, and I spent the afternoon at the Presidio in San Francisco. I had not been there since my return from Oregon so it had been over 10 years since I have poked around this wonderful place. There have been so many positive changes since it has become part of the Golden Gate Recreational Area, a National Park that is open to the public.

First we enjoyed a salad at a restaurant right on the old military parade grounds.
Then we spend quite a long time at the California Watercolor Association's 40th Annual Exhibition. It was a wonderful show with a wide range of talent and technique. The exhibit was held in the old Officer's Club

Here is a poster of the show. I like the graphic of the word water+color.

Then, Patti and I drove up to the Inspiration Point area where Andy Goldworthy has an incredible structure, "Spire"... it is to honor the old trees that have to be replaced. They are planting new trees in the area. The "Spire" has been created from the trunks of the trees that needed to be cut down. It is awesome, especially set beside the natural old groves and the new plantings.
I took a photo of Patti to give you some idea of the scale of the "Spire".

One nice thing about living in the Bay Area is that there are so many opportunities to experience many different things all with in an easy drive. I want to return to the Presidio soon and explore more of this wonderful park.
