A Hike in Muir Woods

I woke up this morning to realize that my calendar was clear of commitments and things to do. I decided to go to Muir Woods. This National Park is only 1/2 hour away from my home. I had been wanting to go before school is out for the summer to avoid the crowds. With my Golden Pass (for seniors), I get in free.

Silly me... there were school groups galore. Muir Woods has about 5000 visitors a day. I did get there early, before the tour buses arrived and was able to get a parking place.

Muir Woods is a magical place and, if you are willing to walk more than a mile,
you are away from the "folk" with their cameras and maps and conversation. I took a 3 mile loop hike up the canyon and it was so serene and peaceful. It was hard to return to the tourists and lines.

I'm glad I took the chance to revisit this very special place, so near that I forget that is is in my back yard.
