Jacksonville Garden Club Cover Paintings

Fritillaria Gentneri
My good friend, Grace, asked me to do a painting for the cover of the Jacksonville Garden Club Directory. The town's official flower is the Fritillaria Gentneri that is a wildflower that is found only in this area. I had fun doing two versions, one somewhat botanical and the other in a looser watercolor style with a background.. the flower is going to pop through the border onto the rest of the cover, thus the design seen in these images.

Fritillaria Plant

I had visions of spilling tea or paint or having something disastrous happen before I could get them done and in the mail. Now, they are safely in their mailing envelope ready for the US Postal Service to hopefully get them there in one piece!

There is something about doing a commission, even if it is for a good friend, that raises my level of anxiety. I'd much rather just do something for myself and if others like it, that is the icing on the cake.

Having said this.... this project went pretty well as it was somewhat simple and I love the little town of Jacksonville.
