Three of us hopped into my car and headed up to Sebastopol for the Gravenstein Apple Festival. We went along back country roads, mainly because we "lost" our way.
We were rewarded with wonderful farm lands and rural scenes. We finally got out the map and found our way to the park grounds. This is an annual event that supports the Sonoma Farm Trails. There were vendors of every sort and apples, apples, apples. If one could make something out of apples, it was there and for sale. I managed to keep my purchases to one small pottery vase to use for a single small flower or two.
My favorite exhibit was a collection of antique farm machinery, all in working order. It was fascinating to see how these wonderful relics are up and running. One that caught my fancy was a clothes washer that was essentially a square box that rocked back and forth. It also had a hand crank wringer. I do remember these wringers from my youth. We were warned about the danger of getting a finger or two squished if we were not careful as we loaded the pieces of laundry to get wrung dry. The first washer on display that had an agitator was an old Maytag, circa 1930. Ahhhh, memories. There was a large collection of old tractors. As I walked along the display, I thought of my friend Clare, who has painted many old tractors with her wonderful colors and style.
After checking out all the exhibits and finding some treasures, we drove down to Petaluma to have a delightful lunch on the patio of an Italian restaurant that was right on the Petaluma River. After lunch we had to stop at a local candy store so one of our troops could purchase Clark candy bars. Apparently, they are no longer stocked at regular stores. I had no idea that they had become "rare". Jeanne left with 3 or 4 which, she said, would last her for awhile.
NOT me, if I had a favorite candy, it would be gone pronto!
We did not paint on Saturday... so today, I went to an area in the next town that has a row of lovely hanging flower baskets. I love driving along this stretch of road and always enjoy looking at the lush plantings hanging from the old fashioned light standards.
I feel better having gotten a journal page done as my goal is to do one at least once a week.
Here it is.
