Letting Go of Books

Recently I attended an event at the Tamalpais, a senior retirement center. The speaker, Ciji Ware, talked about getting ready for the eventuality that we will need to "rightsize" as we get older. Her book Rightsizing Your Life is excellent. It really challenged me in many ways.

One comment struck home with me. She suggested that we have no boxes of books sitting on shelves where we cannot use and enjoy them. Today, I went through 4 boxes of books I had in my storage locker. I gave most of the books away and put the remaining few books in my apartment. I now have one book case with 4 shelves full or the equivalent of 12 feet of books.

It feels great to know that the books I really love and want to read and re read are within sight and touch. Someday, when I do move and probably downsize, this part of my move will be much easier!
