Sick and Tired of Being Sick and Tired

OKAY, this is day 8 of my cold... the 3rd or 4th of the season and I am ready to declare ENOUGH!

The weather has matched my mood... cold, wet and gray. The good news is that our reservoirs are almost full, the bad news is that we have not seen the sun for almost 2 weeks and my SAD is kicking up its heels. It promises to be some what sunny today but as of this morning it is once again cold, foggy, damp and gray.

Thankfully, I am no longer communicable and I do feel better with drugs... but it would be nice to have my energy back. I guess this is one of the downsides of aging... things seem to take longer to heal.

Okay, enough of the complaining and onto more pleasant topics.

Last night, two friends and I took ourselves out to dinner and then on to a talk given by a local botanical artist that specializes in native Marin County plants. Her work is amazing, so detailed and accurate. It was very interesting to hear how she does her work. She brought along her supplies and we were fascinated to see how tiny her brushes are... she uses a jeweler's mask with magnifying glass lenses to see her work up close. I appreciate looking at these works of art but I have no interest in trying it. I prefer an artist's interpretation of how she sees and feels about the flower or plant.

This is a card that she was selling at the event. It is a reproduction of one of her works.

That piece of botanical art is so beautiful, but like you I have no inclination to do it myself. Sorry about your flu. Although we are in summer that is happening to some people here, that they can't get rid of it. Hope you will be well soon. Email is wendyshortland@gmail.com or try wendy_shortland@optusnet.com.au

I love to see the works that people can make with so much detail. I sure can't do it and not just because of lack of practice - I don't have the patience for it. I admire those who do and try to make my less detailed things special in a different way.

I hope this is your LAST cold of the season.
