Mystery Tree

On Tuesday, I came upon a mystery tree in the garden of our hostess for our Watercolor Journal Group. The fruit looked like huge, melon sized apples. I was told that it is a Quince... this one is not yet ripe.
It will turn yellow as it ripens. I have never seen a quince.  The shape is just like an apple yet it is SO BIG.

I have had quince jelly and I guess that is the extent of my exposure to quince. The persimmons need to ripen up also.... I put them together for a comparison.  I am not sure what to do with the quince when it does ripen. Our hostess told us it has a lovely aroma as it turns yellow.... my nose is ready for what comes next!
