Kate Merriman's Art Show Opening

My daugher, Kate put up an amazing collection of paintings that she had done of dogs see has seen on the Bolinas Beach. She has 2 large dogs that she would take out 2 times a day to play and run on the beach just a few steps from her cottage in this small West Marin town right on the Pacific Ocean.

She chose the theme "Wet Dogs are the Lovingest" from this Ogden Nash poem.
Her dad loved Ogden Nash and would often recite his poems for his friends and family.

The Dog
The truth I do not stretch or shove
When I state that the dog is full of love.
I've also found, by actual test,
A wet dog is the lovingest.

Ogden Nash (1902-1971)

Kate and Mom
Kate actually painted all of these wonderful images of dogs in just 2 weeks! And to add to that amazing accomplishment, she also moved from Bolinas to San Anselmo last Saturday. Kate is a fast painter and apparently a deadline really propelled the process along.

I brought two friends, Sue and Patti. that were in the Theta house with me at CAL a million years ago. Our 50th reunion has come and gone but we are still alive and kicking. It was fun to be the Mom of such a talented woman. Kate works in oils and has wonderful stroke work which is hard to see in these casual photos.

This joyful painting is of OTIS, a dog that lives upstairs above Kate's unit.
Otis gets along great with her 2 large dogs so there is plenty of action in their shared yard.

Here is one more painting of the 12 or so in the show.
It will be up for 2 months so if you are in the San Anselmo area, just pop in at the Marin Coffee Roasters and take a look.
