Redwood Report – Week 2 - Senior Prom

The Senior Prom was last night.
As I mentioned in my last posting, there is tremendous community support of The Redwoods here in Mill Valley. Friends of the Redwoods is a large volunteer organization that supports this community with fund raisers and then has many men and women who put in hours of service each week.
They help to make living at The Redwoods a fun and exciting life for seniors.

The Leadership class from Tam High came over to help hostess, serve and provide male dancing partners for the single ladies. We also had the Mill Valley Rotary provide more dancing partners and men to sit and visit at the tables.

Many of our more senior residents are not able to dance or mix by moving around the room so the volunteers circulated to visit with different tables.

The King and Queen of the Prom were crowned.
They are the oldest residents at the Redwoods that are able to attend this lovely event.
This wonderful pair are 98 and 99 years old.
They said that they were thrilled not only to just "be here"
but also to be crowned as the royal couple.

The volunteers turned the auditorium into a festive setting with fresh flowers, a wooden dance floor,
a live 6 piece dance band, twinkle lights... etc.
Lovely appetizers, wine, champagne and sparkling cider was served and later, of course, dessert.

Each resident got a name tag that had a symbol on it indicating if they wanted to dance or not.
Then the volunteers circulated and asked different women to dance.
I got in  quite a few dances in last night.
I had not done any ball room dancing for years and years. It was fun.
I even danced with the former Mayor of Mill Valley!

Love it, Elizabeth!! I think I see Trevor G. in the lineup of Tam High leaders.

What a special event.
I think you should report for the MILL VALLEY PATCH or the PACIFIC SUN!

That's great - the King and Queen of the Prom look awesome for their age too.
