Saturday, the Merriman girls (Kate, Porter, Elizabeth and Elsa) went out west to the Halleck Creek Horse Show. Halleck Creek is a therapeutic riding center out in Nicasio, in West Marin.
It was a very special day in so many ways. There are many devoted volunteers that help the riders with the horses. The joy and sense of accomplishment that one can see on the faces of the children as they ride is heart warming.
Of course, I had to put on my Cowgirl hat
to get into the mood.
The tables behind me were set up for our picnic lunch.
Elsa had on her pink girlie boots and was eager
to get going. We could hardly keep her out
of the ring until her class started.
Here are the volunteers helping Elsa get all
mounted and settled on her steed, Duelly.
Each rider has 2 walkers and a leader.
They make the ride safe and teach
as they lead.
There are smiles all around.
Every child is a winner. Her is Elsa with, not only
a large ribbon but also a beautiful trophy.
Her trusty mount is behind her.
He did not get a ribbon, but
perhaps some oats later on in the day?
After lunch, we took a wagon ride.
The horses were so well trained and their
tack gleamed in the sun.
Both the drivers were wonderful with the children.
All in all, it was a heart warming, love filled event.
Halleck has been helping children for many years.
I was fortunate to be able to chat with their founder,
Joyce. She had a vision and this wonderful organization
continues to give riding opportunities to so many.

Animals help just about everyone. I think they are much smarter than we give them credit for or maybe we humans are finally beginning to realize that feelings are a type of intelligence and animals can read them better than we can. Glad it turned out a fun day for everyone.
