One of my Watercolor Journal buddies and I attended a
Zentangle Class in our local art store, Riley St.Art Supply.
It was taught by Paula Egan, CZT.
Zentangle is a meditative way to create patterns
one stroke at a time. It is becoming quite
popular and I became aware of this art form
last month. I've been playing around with this
art form using a book and going on a few web sites that
one can view to learn how to Zentangle.
It was a treat to see a certified teacher show us
how to create a tile in person today.
Paula had a packed class of 25. Here is Miriam
busy doing her tile as the teacher demonstrates on
a neat easel that rotates as she works.
Here is the class busy doing their tiles.
We gathered them all together in a collage at
the end of our session and people got up on chairs
to take photos of them. I managed to ask some one else
to do so with my iPhone.
I am getting a little smarter about being more
careful as I am in my senior years.
Too many of my friends at The Redwoods have had
bad falls and I don't want to do so.
Our tiles were all the same 4 basic tangles combined
together in a 3.5" square. We learned how to shade
them for greater depth.
It is so interesting to see how each individual created
a unique tile that expresses their style.

Earlier this week, I had time to do a
painting in my journal of the High School that
is across the street from where I live.
I was peacefully painting, having settled myself on a grassy
knoll. I had my mug of tea, paints and journal out and was
absorbed in my own little world of Watercolor Journaling when
I heard a very loud and very large commercial power lawn
mower approaching. I quickly gathered up all my stuff
and escaped to the side walk near by. WHEW!
Moving changed my perspective view. Thankfully,
I don't really try to get true perspective. I have not had
formal art training and it is more fun for me just
to be naive and whimsical with my watercolors.
Here is the page.
